Today, I am writing about a new task. In this task, I collaborated with kindergartners and created a soft toy called “feeling-monster”. My soft toy is describing happy feeling. To make the stuffed toy, i decided to use a recycle materials, such as old clothes.
First, i interviewed two kindergartners, and asked them many questions. I asked questions about their favorite things and feelings, and based on their answer, I sketched and designed my stuffed toy. Since their favorite feeling was happy, I sketched two different toys with happy expression. Those feeling monsters look like cat and panda, since the kindergartners who i researched had different favorite animals. Both stuffed toys are based on purple and pink, and they both have lovely face. After designing, I showed my sketches to kindergartners, so they could decide one of them.
After I finished interviewing and sketching, I made a template. First, i tried to make my own template, but it didn’t look nice so i decided to find a template online. I printed out the template and cut them. After that, I cut fabric and materials by using those templates.
Then, I started sewing all of the fabric together. I was wondering if i should use sewing machine, but i ended up sewing by my hands, since my fabrics were small. I enjoyed sewing by hand, but it was also very challenging because it took longer time that i was expecting, and it is still not finished yet.
that was how i made my stuffed toy, and since i don’t have picture of it, I will describe how it looks like. My stuffed toy looks like a panda, and it has pink arms, legs and ears. It looks like a doughnut or ice cream since they kindergartner’s favorite food. It has two lovely yellow eyes with blue pupil made by button. Its body is decorated with sprinkles which are made by buttons and string. It is very fluffy, and it is around 20 cm small. It can sit by its own, and its head is as big as its body. I hope that you understand how my feeling monster look like. Thank you for reading this blog, and see you next time!
